The Coon Rapids Residence family contacted Thielen & Green to explore options on converting their existing detached garage into a new hang-out for the family. The garage was a good distance away from the house and became nothing more than a glorified storage shed. The goal was to reuse the existing structure but expand South with enough depth to fit a new golf simulator.
Thielen & Green provided architectural design services from early conceptual design through permit & bid documents. Programming includes a new entry lounge, dry-bar, outdoor patio and full golf simulator with mixed seating for groups of all sizes. The design carries forward the contemporary aesthetic of the primary residence, but leans into more modern features with new awnings and a mono-pitched roof truss. The interior design offers a fresh take on neutral tones, with direct connections to the exterior and tons of natural light.
The project completed construction in early 2026. This project utilized full BIM modeling for early design review, project coordination and clash detection, with a goal to limit field changes and expedite construction timelines.
