Two St Michael business women had a vision of creating a community empowerment center that could help culture small business growth, support community programs and promote wellness in the region. One of the owners, who also owns Sage Leaf Salon, paired this vision with the relocated salon for a truly unique destination for St Michael. They turned to Axys Construction to help set the team and outline a path forward.

Thielen & Green provided full scope architectural services from conceptual design through interior design and construction administration. Concept documents were utilized to set early expectations for design and determine the project’s overall feasibility and scale. Programming includes the relocated salon with formal entry, waiting, reception, six stations with supporting washing suite, break room, powder room and guest restroom. The empowerment center includes its own reception area, lobby, retail, community room, two spas, spa lounge, outdoor patio, break room and five business offices. The design includes a modern exterior with tons of natural light and clean lines. The interior is a rustic modern approach to a contemporary design palate, with various pockets of open deck, feature walls and decorative lighting. The wood structure, designed by Herzog Engineering, followed simple framing with an interior steel beam line and pre-engineered wood trusses. This project was delivered under a design-build approach with MEP + civil engineering by Axys Construction as the general contractor. The project is on track to start construction late 2025 with a 2026 completion date.

This project utilized full BIM modeling for early design review, project coordination and clash detection, with a goal to limit field changes and expedite construction timelines.
