Allina Health was consolidating sites and looking to expand services at the Coon Rapids Specialty Center. Allina was looking for a design-build team to map out the expansion and detail construction phasing to eliminate downtime.
Thielen & Green provided full scope architectural services from fit planning through construction administration. The four-phase project couldn’t impact existing clinical services, but still needed to work within the building’s construction window. Programming includes a new reception desk with three check-in stations, expanded waiting room, second imaging suite, casting suite, multiple staff work pods, three scheduling offices, ten new exam rooms, ultrasound exam room, new med prep and clinical storage. The interior design continued the existing clinic’s aesthetic, while blending in the new clinical standards for an updated look and feel. This project was delivered under an integrated approach with Kraus Anderson as the general contractor, and MEP + fire protection engineering design-build by the selected sub-contractors.
This project utilized full BIM modeling for early design review, project coordination and clash detection, with a goal to limit field changes and expedite construction timelines.
