Compass Orthodontics started with a simple mission, to guide patients towards their healthiest, most confident smile with professional, personalized orthodontic care of the highest quality. The practice saw Medina as an ideal location due to its strong sense of community, high-quality schools and growing population seeking localized healthcare.
Thielen & Green provided conceptual design services to set early expectations for design, establishing the overall design intent to determine the project’s feasibility and scale. The existing wetlands, planned unit development standards and grading limitations required additional due diligence review. Thielen & Green provided full scope design services after concept approval including interior design, civil engineering, landscape architecture and structural engineering. Programming includes a formal entry, waiting area, reception, consult rooms, imaging suite, six ortho bays, lab, sterilization, manager’s office, break room and various staff amenities. The design is a modern take on a Mediterranean aesthetic, with more localized materials on the exterior to fit the surrounding development. Large openings flood the clinical and waiting space with natural light. Pre-packaged awnings, exposed wood beams and dark storefronts provide some industrial design relief.
The project began construction in fall of 2025 and was completed spring of 2026. This project was delivered under a design-build MEP and fire protection engineering approach with Heritage Construction Companies as the general contractor. Site selection was provided by Ryzo Commercial Realty.
This project utilized full BIM modeling for early design review, project coordination and clash detection, with a goal to limit field changes and expedite construction timelines.
We worked closely with Kevin Green (of Thielen & Green) in the design and throughout the build process of our ground-up orthodontic practice — and I couldn’t recommend him and his team more highly. Kevin brought a level of thoughtfulness to this project that we didn’t know to expect from an architect. He understood our vision, anticipated details we hadn’t considered, and designed spaces that felt both clinical-grade functional and warmly inviting. Aside from his expertise, what truly set him apart, was how he showed up throughout our lengthy construction process. Kevin helped us navigate many challenges as they arose and consistently went to bat for us — advocating on our behalf and making sure our plan stayed intact from start to finish. By the end of the build, Kevin wasn’t just our architect. He was someone we trusted completely and, honestly, someone we now consider a friend. If you’re building a practice — or any space where design and integrity both matter — Thielen & Green is who you want in your corner.
